What Is Personal Accident Insurance?

A Personal Accident insurance gives you financial support when an accidental event happens to you. Generally accidental events means an event that is sudden, unforeseen or unexpected which causes bodily injury to the inusred person.

When an accidental event happens, you as the insured person are able to claim the payouts from the insurance conpany.

Payouts may constitute:

  • Accidental Death
  • Accidental Disability
  • Medical expenses
  • Daily Hospitalisation Benefit
  • Weekly Income Benefit

 

Things You Need To Make A Claim

Accidental Death Claim

  1. Fill up the neccessary claim form
  2. Obtain the death certificate 
  3. Letter of Administration / Grant of probate documents from courts
  4. A Copy of the deceased NRIC or passport
  5. Proof of relationship to the deceased
  6. Send all the documents to the insurer

Accidental Disability Claim

  1. Fill up the neccessary claim form
  2. Obtain the medical certification and/or doctor’s report certifying the nature of the injury and the latest status of the condition
  3. Send all the documents to the insurer

Medical Expenses Claim

  1. Fill up the neccessary claim form
  2. Obtain the medical report and/ or Doctor's memo
  3. Obtain the bills/ invoice
  4. Obtain the police report
  5. Send all the documents to the insurer

Weekly Income Claim

  1. Fill up the neccessary claim form
  2. Obtain the original medical certificates
  3. Obtain the medical certification / Doctor’s memo 
  4. Obtain the latest pay slip on letterhead or duly certified by employer
  5. Other evidence of remuneration which must be duly certified

Submission

Upon collecting all the things needed, you can submit the claim. At times, you might not have the documents but that does not mean you cannot submit the claim. You are still able to submit the claim but the outcome of it may not be too favourable on your side. But sometimes, the insurer may be more lenient and still process the claim. 

Therefore, it is to your benefit that you are able to submit all the documents when making the  claim.

Online Submission

Some insurers may have a link or portal on their website so that you may click and submit the documents. Do make sure you key in your personal information correctly.

Mobile Application Submission

This is one of the more convenient ways of submitting a claim. First you do need to sign up under the mobile application and subsequently you can navigate through the application. Once you locate the claims section, it will be self-explanatory from there.

Mailing Submission

The most straightforward way of making a claim. Put all the documents inside an envelope and mail it to the insurer. However, this is the least encouranged way as it will take a longer time for the claim to be processed.
